DENON DN-1100R
PROFESSIONAL MINI-DISK RECORDER

The DENON DN-1100R is an MD Recorder equipped with ten independent Hot Start buttons,
to which any ten tracks can be assigned. When a Hot Start button is pressed, the track
assigned to it will instantly be played back. Designed originally for theaters and public
announcements where instant playback is required, the Hot Start can also be used as a sampler
function for Disk Jockeys, and for generating sound effects in live broadcasts or post production.
MAIN FEATURES:
- Tracks can be freely assigned to any of the ten Hot Buttons on the DN-1100R's front panel.
The length of the track is of no consequence. The audio segment assigned to a Hot Start button
can easily be replaced with a new, different track whenever desired.
- The start of the actual sound on a track is detected by the Cue Detect function at a level fixed at
-48 dB. Or, if preferred, any desired point within a track can be assigned to a button with one-frame
precision.
- Parallel Remote Support: The DN-1100R is equipped with a 25-pin port on the rear panel, to which
an optional external Hot Start control box can be connected. (This parallel interface is identical to
that on the DN-981F.)
PLAY FUNCTIONS:
- Cue to Music/Instant Start: The DN-1100R can cue to the point where the sound actually starts,
rather than to the beginning of the track. Playback starts almost instantly after the button is pressed.
The threshold level of the cue point is -48 dB.
- Track Select: Turning the knob increments or decrements the track number in single track
increments, while pressing and turning allows tracks to be selected in ten-track units.
- Play Mode: When played directly from a disk: Continuous.
When played via Hot Start Button:
Single cut.
- End of Message (EOM): Near the end of a track, the LED of the Play/Pause button flashes,
providing a visual warning to the operator that the track will end shortly. This feature is defeatable,
and the point at which the flashing begins can be set within a range of 5 seconds prior to the end
of the track.
- Fade In: Any sonic aberration due to a sudden burst of sound at the start of play can be
suppressed using the Fade-In function.
- Fader Start: Equipped with play start input to an opto-isolator, the unit can be started from a
mixing console.
- Manual Search: 1-frame cueing precision (1/75 sec.) is possible. Although not part of the MD
standard, CD frames have become a familiar and convenient subdivision of digital audio signals. The DN-1100R calculates pseudo-frames and displays them as an aid for precise cueing and editing.
RECORDING FUNCTIONS:
- Instant Recording: Recording starts immediately after the "REC" button is pressed.
- Auto Track Increment: 1) Portions less than -48 dB are detected and tracks are automatically
incremented. 2) In case of digital recording, the subcode (of DAT or CD) is detected to increase
the track number. (This feature is defeatable.)
- Manual Track Increment: A track can be incremented by pressing the Record (REC) button
during recording.
- Pre-UTOC System: DENON's Pre-UTOC system can write a TOC at the start of recording,
and then creates a normal U-TOC at the end of recording. Even in the event recording is interrupted
by an occurence such as a power cable disconnection, the recording that is interrupted at that point
will survived and can be played.
- Digital Input: Coaxial (RCA jack).
EDITING FUNCTIONS:
- Erase (Track Erase, Disk Erase), Divide, Combine, Move.
- Title Input: Alphanumeric Characters - including uppercase and lowercase letters,
numbers and symbols - can be used to enter names for tracks and disks from the front panel.
The rotary selector knob facilitates speedy selection of characters. Up to 255 characters can
be used for each name. However, the combined total number of characters cannot exceed 1,700.
DISPLAYS:
- Elapsed Time, Remaining Time, Title, Disk Name (Time as hour, minute, second, frame).
- FL Display
- Track No. (3-digit display) up to 255 tracks.
- 13-digit character display
- 24-step peak level meter.
- Over-level alert.
- Five-function displays are always active, instantly describing the machine's status:
TOC, EDIT, CUE, REM, DIGITAL IN.
