TOKYO - Aiwa Co., Ltd. has introduced the XR-MD310 MD component system, which provides a new standard, the MD Long Play (MDLP) function. The component system is only 37.6cm wide.

The XR-MD310's MDLP function can record and play back four times or twice as long as in normal mode. This allows up to 320-minute recording on an 80-minute MD. Listeners can thus record several music CDs onto an MD for more efficient storage. The main unit with integrated MD player, CD player, tuner, and amplifier is just 14.4cm wide. And the entire MD system including the speakers is only 37.6cm wide, so it's easy to set up in even the smallest of rooms.

The XR-MD310 also features a high-powered 30W amplifier; virtual stereo QSURROUND to create natural stereophonic surround effects; and a BBE sound-processing system for precise mid- and high-range sound. It also boasts stylish, wooden speakers with dome tweeter, and sampling rate converter for digital recording from BS/CS digital broadcasts and DAT to MDs.

The XR-MD310 also offers three LCD display colors (purple, blue, and orange), while its exterior design employs a soft, rounded form and lavender-colored speaker grilles. The stylish unit thus enhances its owner's interior decor.

The XR-MD310 is a fashionable MD/CD system, compact yet offering high-quality sound, to meet the needs of listeners wishing to move up to a new level of sound quality from that provided by their old CD radio cassette recorders.

Main Features
* Offers new standard, the MD Long Play (MDLP) mode for lengthy stereo recording and playback four times (LP4 mode) or twice (LP2 mode) that of normal mode. This function lets users record up to 320 minutes (LP4 mode) or 160 minutes (LP2 mode) onto an 80-minute MD. It also allows 2X speed dubbing from CD to MD.
* MDs can be recorded with various recording modes. However, tracks recorded with MDLP can be played back only by MDLP equipment.
* The MD deck's CD to MD double-speed dubbing function is convenient for making original MDs.
Note: For copyright protection reasons, the same CD cannot be recorded in double-speed mode within 74 minutes of the start of double-speed recording.
* Multifunction MD deck offers precise recording and editing.

MD, CD, tuner, and amplifier are integrated in one unit that's just 14.4cm wide; the entire system including the speakers measures only 37.6cm.
