TOKYO - Aiwa Co., Ltd. has introduced the XR-MDS7 MD/CD component system, which measures only 30cm wide, including the speakers.

The XR-MDS7's main unit is a mere 10cm wide, thanks to a slot-loading CD mechanism. And at only 30cm, the entire unit fits on a bookshelf, a desktop, or just about anywhere.

The XR-MDS7 offers high-quality sound with a powerful 30W amplifier, virtual surround Qsurround that creates great surround stereophonic effects, and pro-sound BBE that ensures outstanding mid and high-range reproduction. What's more, the jog dial and the CD loading slot light up in the user's choice of three lively colors - sky blue, fresh orange, and purple - making this system a treat for the eyes as well as the ears.

Despite its small size, the XR-MDS7 puts out high-quality sound, and is aimed at a wide range of users, from women and others looking to move up from CD radio/cassette recorders, to audiophiles who want the slot-loading CD mechanism featured on many car stereos.

The center unit, integrating the MD recorder, CD player, tuner, and amplifier, measures just 10cm wide. With speakers together, the entire system is only 30cm wide. The slot-loading CD mechanism works just like the ones on high-end car stereos.
* Three-color illuminated jog dial allows listeners to enjoy it as interior decoration.
Listeners can change the color around the illuminated jog dial and CD loading slot from sky blue to fresh orange or purple, to match their mood or the decor of the room.

This new 3D audio technology developed by Qsound Labs ensures magnificent stereophonic sound and virtual surround effects.
* BBE sound processing system ensures precise mid- and high- range balance.
* Sampling rate converter for digital recording from BS/CS digital broadcasts and DAT to MD. The sampling rate converter automatically converts 32kHz/48kHz sampling frequencies to 44.1kHz. This allows high-quality digital MD recording from external equipment such as BS/CS digital tuners and DAT decks, in addition to CDs.
