AIWA'S NEW PORTABLE MD RECORDER FEATURES
MDLP AND COMPACT STEREO MICROPHONE

"AM-F90"

The design and specifications of this model are just for
Japanese market only

TOKYO - Aiwa Co., Ltd. has introduced the AM-F90 portable MD recorder. With its MD Long Play (MDLP) mode, users can enjoy their MDs for four times as long as in normal mode.

The AM-F90 features MDLP, long-time 4x and 2x speed MD stereo recording and playback; one-point stereo microphone for clear digital stereo recording of meetings and general use; twin jog levers on the main unit provide excellent ease of operation; 66-hour continuous playback (with both rechargeable battery and dry cell, in LP4 mode); and personal disc memory that registers each disc's playback data.

Last year, shipments of portable MDs stood at almost 3 million units, marking an 11.3% increase over 1999 and proving that this is a growing market. One-quarter of the market share was accounted for by playback and recording type units. As the MD is ideal for making lengthy, clear recordings, it attracts many business users who record meetings and lectures, as well as use it for recording music. With its supplied stereo microphone, the AM-F90 is a portable unit that can be used to record almost anywhere. And its easy-to-use features allow it to be used immediately after purchase.

Model: AM-F90
Suggested retail price: ¥43,000 (excluding tax)
Initial launch: April 1

Main Features

  • New standard MD Long Play (MDLP) mode for 4x and 2x speed long-time stereo MD recording and playback
The AM-F90 can be used for lengthy stereo recording and playback - four times (LP4 mode) and twice (LP2 mode) that of normal MD recording. It can record up to 320 minutes (LP4 mode) or 160 minutes (LP2 mode) on an 80-minute MD.
    * It is possible to record on an MD in different modes. However, tracks recorded in MDLP can be played back only with a device featuring MDLP.
  • One-point stereo microphone and extended-time recording mode
The one-point stereo microphone allows instant digital recording. And the extended recording mode means up to 160 minutes of continuous monaural recording can be made on an 80-minute disc.
  • Twin jog levers on the main unit for excellent operation
Jog levers on both sides of the main unit allow various settings - MD basic operation with the right lever and MD editing on the left.
  • Max. 66-hour continuous playback
The AM-F90 can play back up to 66 hours in LP4 mode using a rechargeable battery together with an AA or LR6 alkaline cell.
  • Personal disc memory can register the playback data recorded in SP or MDLP mode.
Information on the sound volume, preferred sound quality, and playback mode of each disc can be registered independently. This data can be called up automatically from registered discs when they are inserted in the unit.
  • Convenient melody timer
The AM-F90 can ring in melody or alarm for a minute by setting a designated time from one minute up to 99 minutes. This function is ideal to remind users to get off a train or bus at their stop or for timing workouts.
  • 40-second/80-second (LP2)/160-second (LP4) sound skip prevention memory offers excellent resistance to knocks and vibration.
  • Users can input titles during MD recording
There is no need to wait until recording is finished - users can input letters designating the track name or meeting theme while recording.
  • Synchro recording function compatible with digital connection
MD recording mode can be started or stopped automatically when linked with a digital player.
  • Digital tone processor can flexibly set up preferred sound quality.
It can adjust from -4 to +3 in eight levels for high- and low-range sound, allowing users to make two different patterns of this combination.
  • Track name search function allows users to select titles that they want to listen to.
Users can directly select titles that they want to listen to while checking them on the LCD display in MD playback.
  • Playback speed adjustment function (every 5% between 80%-100%)
  • Illuminated stick remote control unit with nine-letter display
Users can make sure of the MD disc name, track names, track numbers, and operating condition with the LCD remote control unit. Its backlit illumination means it can be used in the dark.
  • Sampling rate converter allows recording of BS/CS digital broadcasts and DAT
The AM-F90 automatically converts 32kHz/48kHz sampling frequencies to 44.1kHz, allowing high-quality digital recording from external sources such as BS/CS digital tuners, DAT, or CD players.
  • Wide range of editing functions
The AM-F90's editing functions - combine, divide, move, and erase - make the most of the MD format's unique characteristics.
  • Time mark function
This automatically marks a recording every 5/10/15 minutes according to the user's choice, so it's easy to scan a recording of a long meeting or lecture to find key passages.
  • Date function, which can store and display the year, month, and date of a recording, and clock function
  • 20-track program play/repeat (programmable for one track or all tracks)/random playback
  • AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) maintains volume output below strong signal levels for listener comfort) and controls sound leaks from headphones.
  • 4-step battery condition indicator is displayed on both the main unit and remote control unit.
  • Resume function can start playback where it stopped.
  • Silver color
