TOKYO - Aiwa Co., Ltd. has introduced the MR-P1 compact mini-disc (MD) system. It includes a MD recorder and FM/AM tuner in a compact body that's just 28cm wide and almost 6.5cm deep.

Because it is lightweight and compact, the MR-P1 is easy to carry so users can play or record MDs anywhere. It's ideal for recording meetings and lessons or playing back MDs, whether indoors or outdoors. This is a personal MD system that expands the use and potential of MDs, which have rapidly penetrated the mass market.

The MR-P1 offers easy operation and high-quality sound. For example, it features a sampling rate converter + optical digital input; a dual power source - batteries for outdoor use (alkaline) and AC; built-in microphone and microphone input for recording anywhere; three-way timer (record/alarm/sleep), making the unit convenient to use anywhere as an alarm clock; virtual stereo QSOUND that reproduces natural stereophonic surround effects; and a Japanese display for easy operation.

(6) Monaural recording mode for long recording of up to 160 minutes in a 80-minute MD.

* Sampling digital converter + optical digital input for digital - It automatically converts 32kHz/48kHz sampling radio frequencies to 44.1kHz. This function allows high-quality digital recording from other equipment such as BS/CS digital tuners and DAT or CD players.
* Built-in microphone (monaural) and microphone input terminal (stereo) for easy recording of meetings or lessons.
* Convenient three-way timer (recording/alarm/sleep)
"Timer recording" and "alarm timer." "Sleep timer" lets users go to sleep listening to their favorite music and turns the unit off automatically. It can be set from five minutes to three hours, in five-minute increments.
* Virtual Stereo QSOUND reproduces natural stereophonic surround effects.
* Dual power source - batteries for outdoor use and AC

The MR-P1 turns off automatically when the MD functions have been idle for one minute.

This makes it easy to find radio stations even when traveling. The area station memory function memorizes broadcast stations in 7 areas and on JR Shinkansen bullet trains nationwide.
