JVC LAUNCHES TWO COMPACT, LIGHTWEIGHT MD PLAYERS The XM-R700 and XM-PX50 are new MD players from JVC. They are both lightweight and compact. While the XM-PX50 measures only 76 x 17.4 x 81mm and weighs in at 74g, the XM-R700 is capable of recording as well as playing MDs. Both MD players feature MDLP, a new standard for long play. Advanced data compression technology (ATRAC3) allows an ordinary MD to store two (LP2 mode) or four times (LP4 mode) the standard length of music (in stereo mode). This means a single compact MD can hold as much music as four CDs while providing sound quality nearly equal to that of current MDs. MDLP modes allow extremely long play or recording time: the XM-R700 provides 75 hours of play time, and 41 hours of recording time, in LP4 mode on the rechargeable battery plus three alkaline batteries. The XM-PX50, on the other hand, plays back for 26 hours continuously in LP4 mode on the rechargeable battery. Both models feature 40-Second Shock Protection. During playback, forty seconds of music are constantly stored in memory. When a jolt affects playback, the stored music is recalled from the memory to ensure interruption-free playback. The XM-R700 allows direct digital recordings of digital sources. It offers 5-mode edit functions (JOIN/DIVIDE/MOVE/ ERASE/ALL ERASE) for versatile editing using a functional side jog control. The 3-mode sampling rate converter (32kHz/44.1kHz/ 48kHz) permits direct recording of any digital source. The XM-R700 is equipped with a mic input for recording live sounds, as well as a line input for recording line-level analogue or digital sources. The remote control for the new JVC MD players is housed in a stylish translucent casing. It’s easy to use thanks to the large display that conveniently shows track titles of the MD in play. DACB (Digital Active Clear Bass) features a boost circuit that is controlled according to the detected output level, to ensure low distortion, even at high volumes. The sound is especially rich and distortion is low because a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) is responsible for the signal control. Both models come packed with an AC adaptor, headphones and a rechargeable battery. Additional accessories for the XM-R700 are an optical digital cable and external battery case and the XM-PX50 is provided with a battery charger. -ends-
