8X Oversampling -- (8 times oversampling) A digital filter which calculates 7 additional samples between the actual samples, which provides a closer representation the original analog signal, and therefore better sound quality.
1-Bit D/A Converter -- A type of digital to analog converter whose output is restricted to only two values. Unlike a multi-bit D/A, in which each bit possesses its own corresponding output voltage, a 1-bit D/A's output voltage is expressed by means of the time axis; i.e., , PWM or PDM.
MDLP (MiniDisc Long Play) --
ATRAC -- Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding. The process used in MiniDisc that utilizes psychoacoustic principles to limit quantization noise and compress the data stream from 16 bits to 4 bits by using non-uniform frequency and time division.
10-second Shock Resistant Memory -- An electronic circuit that stores the audio data stream from a CD or MD in a memory buffer. If the laser pick-up mistracks, audio still flows from the buffer preventing an interruption.
